Position Overview: The Behavioral Health Counselor facilitates patient involvement in treatment and education, performing counseling functions across individual, group, and family settings. You will work closely with the healthcare team to ensure safe, timely, and effective services, while providing resources and support to patients and families.Your role includes assessing psychosocial risk factors, conducting mental health assessments upon physician referral, and supporting complex discharge planning. You will serve as a key contact for cases involving abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and guardianship, utilizing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to promote safety and healing. Key Responsibilities: • Facilitate patient participation in treatment, education, and discharge planning. • Perform individual, group, and family counseling sessions. • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive, timely care. • Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, role modeling caring practices. • Assess psychosocial risk factors based on prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness. • Counsel patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness or disability. • Access and mobilize community and family resources, including protective services, foster care, and mental health placements. • Conduct mental health assessments and provide therapeutic interventions as ordered by physicians. • Serve as the point person for abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and protective services cases. • Support high-risk and crisis situations through de-escalation and clinical intervention. • Assist with complex discharge planning and safety assessments. Qualifications & Requirements: • Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required. • Licensure: Current licensure or license eligibility in Indiana as an HSPP, LMFT, LCSW, or LMHC required. • Clinical licensure preferred. • Certifications: CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) certification may be required. • Experience: Relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience preferred. • Knowledge & Skills: • Knowledge of the impact of disease processes and human behavior for assessments, crisis intervention, and counseling. • Understanding of legal mandates related to protective services. • Principles of growth and development across the lifespan. • Strong crisis de-escalation and interviewing techniques. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. • Ability to develop and maintain strong community and agency relationships.
