Human Resources Generalist

The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Human Resource Generalist in Helena. The HR Generalist will partner with leadership to manage human resources operations, ensuring compliance with policies and providing support on various personnel issues. Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations of human resources for an assigned program area Manage the application of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs to ensure consistency and compliance with federal, state, and collective bargaining contracts Consult, advise, and partner with management on personnel issues, contract interpretation, performance management, recruitment and selection, discipline, drug testing, workforce development, employee relations, training, worker’s compensation and safety Serve as the human resources subject matter expert and primary resource for the Division(s) or District Skills Associate's Degree in human resources, business, or public administration or a closely related field One (1) year of human resources related experience Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resource Management and Public Administration Knowledge of state and federal employment laws Knowledge of labor relations Knowledge of drug testing laws and rules governing labor-management relations Knowledge of contract negotiation techniques Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning Knowledge of leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources Knowledge of behaviors and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests Knowledge of learning and motivation, and assessment Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service Knowledge of customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and business communications Knowledge of presentation and technical writing methods and techniques Online application OR resume detailing your qualifications and work history Successful candidate must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment Driver's recording will be verified Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire Benefits Culture of public service and a commitment to work/life balance Potential hybrid remote work arrangement available Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Access to Montana Health Centers, low-cost clinics for state employees and their families State Retirement plan and additional savings opportunities (deferred compensation) Employees in this position receive overtime compensation or compensatory time for all time in a pay status over 40 hours in a workweek Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays Eligibility for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Benefits apply on first day of employment Relocation assistance may be offered to the successful candidate at the time of offer Company Overview State of Montana has a desire to cultivate a workforce consistently able to respond to challenges facing Montana.
