About the position The Academic Advisors in the Student Academic Affairs Office at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign play a crucial role in supporting the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. They provide holistic academic advising, coordinate student services, and contribute to various programs aimed at enhancing student success and retention. Responsibilities • Serve on the Core Academic Advisor Team • Participate in weekly walk-in advising duty (three shifts) • Hold weekly advising appointments with students (two shifts) • Serve on late and retroactive drop/withdrawal committees • Review and approve student academic relief requests • Process Student Engagement Reports • Assist Records Advisors with Progress Degree Monitoring Communications and Student Meetings • Participate in end-of-term academic progress review audits • Contribute to LAS student recruitment and orientation activities • Serve as the unit representative on internal and external committees • Provide academic advising and student affairs-related services to students in the Access and Achievement Program • Teach and assess a section of LAS 112: First Year College Success • Monitor Student Engagement Reports submitted by Faculty Members for at-risk students • Collaborate and communicate with LAS departments and other colleges/units for accurate information dissemination • Contribute to LAS new student recruitment and yield events and activities Requirements • Bachelor's degree • One (1) year of professional experience or two (2) years of graduate work experience working directly with students in secondary or higher education • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Organizational, communication, interpersonal and assessment skills • Knowledge of academic skills and student development issues associated with undergraduate student populations • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Zoom, web and social media, Banner, and degree audit systems Nice-to-haves • Master's Degree or graduate studies in relevant student affairs fields • At least one year of full-time professional experience in academic advising/counseling, student coaching, or teaching of life skills • Experience advising students who are not making adequate academic progress • Experience working with student transition and/or retention programs • Experience designing and facilitating student success workshops and activities Benefits • Hybrid work options after an initial on-site training period • Professional development opportunities • Supportive work environment focused on diversity and inclusion Apply tot his job
